About Us
St. Joseph was built in Mayer, Arizona in 1912 in the center of town. It has always been a mission. Some of our priests have been Fathers Frankovitz, Bressler, Lane Wilson, Yeager, Hageman, McCormick, Hays, Reiser (3 times), Diaz ( 2 times) and numerous other names that can’t be recalled.
The church bought property along highway 69 and relocated in 1983. Our adoration chapel has been erected and inside our beautiful church are numerous lovely statues and icons. A peaceful and contemplative prayer garden has recently been finished. Although it has been necessary to keep the gate to the parish grounds locked except when the church building is open for services, the adoration chapel and the prayer garden are available to anyone who parks at the gate and walks in.
In the rear of the church is a large multi-media library of books, audio and video disks for the education and inspiration of anyone who wishes to use it.
In July of 2008 our mission was designated as a quasi parish, meaning that we are financially stable without any financial help from the diocese of Phoenix of which we are under.
